airpain

Airpain started off in StarWarzone much like any other player, and even then rarely at all. One day out of the blue, Gold_Leader decided to hire some new mods for a daytime shift, and Airpain volunteered - His first words to the staff were "Thanks for your faith in me, I will make you proud." In what seems like minutes after becoming a moderator, Airpain had mastered all the mod commands (which he downloaded that instant from the internet) and set about mastering mod duties, in a never ending progression that brought him to the top of the SWZ Staff. He became one of the first non Zeta Smods, and took Tail's place and became the zones third Chief Smod, being Tail's first choice. It was his nature to take on responsibility, and that added with his businesslike calm and cool reflective manner brought him the respect and admiration of the entire staff, playerbase included.

Airpain spent most of his time Modding, dealing with cheaters and zone matters. His greatest legacy was finalizing and organizing a staff that was much like a corporation, in comparison to the somewhat haphazard days of modding before his time. Still in the days before bots, a mod meant much more to the zone, and much more was expected of him. All these added duties and stress to mods Airpain took on himself, as a coordinator of the greatest caliber.

Some of the people mentioned in the HoF so far have been mentioned not only for their skill in ships or flagging or what have you but also for friendship. And Airpain is no exception, and anyone who personally knew him would tell you so. I havent met many people on the internet that after their "passing", the memory of them brings tears to the eyes of some of their friends. Airpain is such a person. He was always friendly and happy to lend a smile, or to hear your sad tale and relate a happier outlook of his own. He spent many countless hours chatting to Staff members and players alike, fostering a real feeling of a genuine home away from home for many random Subspace players and hardened zone vets. Sadly, it seems to be Air's own tendency to take on responsiblity drove him away. After assuming Chief Smod duties, shortly afterwards he was thrust into the responsiblity of League and all that it entails. He set the league up and passed on what he could to Poch, before retiring from all things internet. Many feel that his departure was due to incredible amounts of stress from all sides, and that the game was no longer fun anymore. His workload was unbearable by any means, for quite a long while. No one who knew him will ever forget the great flagger he was, or what a damn good dueler he was in WB. No one will forget his presence, something that really affected you and made you realize , "this is someone special". Air will live forever as one of our greatest mods, and greatest friend.

Air once said to me, "If I ever come back to subspace, it will be under an assumed name, and you know I'll never tell anyone." Youre right , Air, I know you wont. And you *did* make us proud.

Cabbit.

Perhaps the only player to have more impostors than GL, we speak of the "real" Cabbit. Cabbit spent long hours duelling everyone he could get his hands on, learning what made them good and then becoming them, becoming better. He was probably the best pilot before he quit and handed the throne to Poser. He was fond of raping newbies in weasel. But Cabbit also was the master of Warbird, Javelin, and spider. He flew Terrier for some months also and quickly learned to master it as well. Some rumours about that Cabbit is aka Poserwannabe, though most likely false. Like every other rumour and false name attested to him, we cannot be sure of anything except that he was one of the best pilots the zone has ever known, in any ship, hands down.

Captain Cohn

No Star Warzone Hall of Fame would be complete without mentioning this semi dubious personage. One of the best Lev pilots ever, and a pretty friendly player, Cohn aka Cone's good points seem to end there. A constant lagger that is worse than CH! Not really, no one can be worse than CH, almost. I speak only with love and admiration when I say Cohn has always had some sort of scheme to do something that never quite works out. It's an ongoing thing, that most of the old timers are aware of, a great hyperbole of sysop comedic humour.

You might compare Cohn to Andy Kaufman, and when you guys finally get it you'll all chuckle. We all know Cone means well, and its all cute, just watch out for, um, his, uh, Bombs. Pun intended. Cohnball, anyone? If you don't believe my little conspiracy theory about Cohn being the ongoing jester of SWZ, type ?sheep. And you'll never know if he is really pregnant, is it a rumour / evil plot to amuse you/ confuse you? Is Cohn a sweet little angel or the Antichrist? You be the judge. But we love him, and her baby too. But even through it all, Cohn was a huge influence (or so we like to say) on the birthing of our zone... and he shall remain one of the best bombers of all time.

Captain Harloch

What cant be said about this monstrous subspace personality? He's done it all, from raising up one of the greatest squads ever, to helping revive subspace itself from the ashes of VIE. Harloch hails from a small island called Australia, where he is suffering through medical school, alleviated by what seems to be frequent bouts of drunkenness.

His squad Zeta Squadron has dominated Star Warzone and Extreme Games many a time over, and has some of the best pilots in all of Subspace, not to mention some of the most important personalities SS wide. His main zone venture, aside from his many side projects (which are more than numerous!) is Star Warzone, which he created with the help of his loyal entourage of ss groupies and squad members. The zone was created to more or less replace the feeling of home for many displaced players of the legendary "Starship Wars T1" zone, where Zeta was formed and its own legend was given birth.

The Subspace Council founder, Harloch through his continued dedication and love for the game itself, nurtured a community through constant postings on message boards and the support of fledgling zones. One of his greatest legacies will be Slayfest, a subspace wide event that changed from game to game. Ask any old vet about Slayfest and chances are, they have been to at least one of them (if not more!), no matter their zone of play.

Harloch may lag, some may say, but he is still one of the better pilots in Subspace, and will continue to be one of the best awing and ywing pilots for all time in Star Warzone. He is a good and loyal friend, and he deserves a spot in every zones hall of fame. If you've played in Star Warzone any amount of time, type ?usage , and thank him for all those hours of fun which he struggled long and hard for.

Craftwise

Many consider this fellow to be the greatest bomber of all time. In his day he was the king of perfect records. The ultimate lev pilot of the old one-kill settings. He was one of the few people to master spider in the old settings. He helped ORION into shape as one of the greatest squads of all time as its captain.

He never said much, just killed people left and right. If you happened to stray into a huge mass of mines and ORION swarmers, you knew that Craftwise was behind it just as you helplessly cried out "lamers!" just as you died... Although some may say he was a so-called "lamer", many may attest to his supreme skill and ability to kill you, no matter who you thought you were.

Cuervo Muerte

A tireless designer, CM may very well be one of the best artists in all of subspace. Always making the best tiles I have ever seen from day one, he has been at the heart of SWZ from the get go. What is a zone really, but a bunch of numbers and a theme. CM has provided that theme, the stage upon which we play. He has worked tirelessly on our web pages, ship sets, file replacements. It bears noting the incredible work he has done for Zeta as well. Perhaps not equal to some of the other players in the hall of fame in terms of piloting skill (although a damn good pilot and flagger in his own right), he is well deserving of his spot for the very fact that, without him, many of you would never have stuck around.

dudley-do-right

The most misunderstood player of all SWZ, ever. So many misconceptions about dudley abound, simply for the fact that he likes it that way. What that says about his psychology, we'll never really know. If you are in a bad mood, chances are dudley can cure you of it. He reminds me of a walking rocky horror picture show party. There's a lot of craziness going on, things that don't really make sense to most people. Not to mention the gender twisting and cross dressing, and food tossing, and sing alongs, just all around the same general state of apparent chaos that marks dudley.

The official jester of SWZ. If you truly understand his humour, you are probably under his power, or so he would like you to believe. Dudley would get in this hall of fame simply for best personality, but it doesn't end there folks, oh no. Having problems with that enemy? Send dudley in there with cap ship. This is one of his little secrets. Like Nato, he will, and he will, get you a win. Only dudley doesn't want you to know that. He would rather skip and frolic as long as he can, but when called upon, he will "perform" well. Surprisingly one of the most humble of all people, dudley wouldn't admit to being a good dueller either. But yet it remains that he is. And do not let him discount himself in the SWZL arena either. Seeing dudley at his best, sometimes I wonder if he intentionally fakes dying to remain humble. If you are lucky enough to know him, then you understand well enough what I am talking about. Not only one of the best pilots/flaggers/personalities, dudley has consistently proven time and time again what it is to be what I would like to call the epitome of an Subspace player. Perhaps each of us who knows him on a more personal level could write pages and pages about him. Only Nato rivals dudley for loyalty and team oriented spirit. And that I can debate, for I know that dudley would physically die if that is what it took to really help someone he cared about.

And who can forget what dudley has done for us as a mod and smod? There from basically the start, dudley has always tried to bring fun and enjoyment into the zone. Always the volunteer, he would jump at the chance to run any event or help out with anyone else's. He had the fun of ALL in mind in whatever he did, be it modding/reffing or even chatting. His many, many hours of service to the zone deserve the utmost respect from all players. Dudley is the kind of guy that would do anything for a friend, and that is probably where he gets his final, and I say, most important Hall of fame entry. I think at his core, he only wants to show love and be loved, and he should know that he is, by many of us. dudley-do-right, best friend anyone could ask for in subspace, online, and in real life.

Fat Kat/ Zorro_

This will probably be the most controversial entry, but no one should truly be able to discount it. If you were around during the birthing days of Jedi Force and private freqs, you know full well why this character is in here. Flagging, pure flagging. It is hard to say who is "best" at *anything* in subspace. It is even harder to say who is the best *flagger*. But of those who know him, or even know of his legend, you would have to agree that he was at least one of the top 3, if not the best flagger Star Warzone has seen, *ever*. He knew every trick in the book. While most vets think they know every trick in the book, I'll bet money that Fat Kat knew more, and used them to great success. His flagging style is still seen today, in the many prodigies that he either personally taught, or those who observed him closely.

Although adamant and outspoken about his opinions, even those who grew to dislike Fat Kat cannot say that even in their hating him he was not one of the best flaggers. Famous for solo entry into enemy territory and relieving them of their flags, Fat Kat was often accused of cheating by players and mods (banned and then later unbanned). Although his innocence proven, Fat Kat never helped the situation with his general hatred of mods in general. But those players who knew him saw a completely different side, one that was friendly and more than eager to help and teach. His legacy lives on in so many, most notably Elmokupo, who formed Jedi Force. Always controversial and outspoken, no true SWZ vet will deny that he was truly (if such a thing may be said) best flagger.

Gold_Leader

Easily one of the most colourful characters ever to set foot in Star Warzone. Gold is a thinker and an instigator, full of inspiration and never short of something to say. Gold, like Harloch, was a great lover of the very first Star Wars-themed zone "StarShip Wars T1" and took an active role as moderator and squad wars officiator. Upon its closure, Gold set about single-handedly mustering a playing population within his new home, Star Warzone. Originally, the zone was simply called "Star Wars" but Gold noticed the strong parallel with VIE Warzone and submitted his request to have it changed, which was granted very soon after.

Undoubtedly one of the most skilled fighter duelers, unhinged and wild don't expect anything from the textbook from this guy. It is his lateral thinking and ability to make attacking opportunities that make Gold one of the greatest to step into the zone. Gold's limitless enthusiasm to see the zone succeed has brought him into the senior staff of Star Warzone and currently enjoys Super Moderator duties. He is a wonderful ambassador for all things Star Warzone and his polite and courteous ways reflect a keen sense duty underlying his often crazy exterior.

MAKEMYDAY

MAKEMYDAY has a long history with SS and with SWZ. In the summer of 1999, MMD was asked to be a mod trainee for his dedication to the zone and helpful personality. After several months of training and movign up the ranks of trainee to full mod, the staff discovered that MMD had a talent for training the incoming mods. Tail, in his wisdom, decided that MMD was ready for smod and to tackle new responsibilities. MMD's patience and willingness to listen, and staying by the standards set by the smods before him, many of the currrent mods today are the product of his ability to teach.

As Star Warzonefourth Chief Smod, MMD had some big shoes to fill. But with his training methods, this would prove to be an easy task. With the bots that SWZ has now, it is hard for someone to know what could the mods have been taught and trained for. There was once a time when the pilots werent placed into the right ships automatically, and it took a patient and helpful mod to teach the incoming pilots. Thank you MAKEMYDAY for your support and dedication to the zone.

Mobster.

Nato's story goes hand in hand with that of his good friend, Mobster. Where Mobster went, Nato followed. Mobster is responsible for forming (and reforming, and reforming, and...) some of the most elite squads of duellists and center killers and flaggers the zone has known. His story is concurrent with the ebb and flow of the zone, and he is always changing right along with it. Always one of the better pilots, he has been around the SWZ block a few times, and deserves a spot in the hall of fame for possibly best Terrier of all time.

Mom

Mom, everyone's favourite online mom. If you have a problem, Mom is there for you with some cookies and milk. One of the best friends you'll meet in SS, or online, Mom gets her spot for tireless, seemingly endless modding. Chances are, if you're playing at almost any time of day, you will see Mom sitting there in spec mode, just waiting for something to go wrong, or someone to have a reason to chat (not that she doesn't have plenty of chat ideas of her own of course!) Mom has also worked long and hard on many events, including flag league, trivia and elims and many other events almost too numerous to mention. And I'd hate to make dudley be jealous, but you cant beat mom for a friend, either. She's always there for you. Always sending letters and postcards and chatting on the phone with her friends in Subspace, Mom spends lots of energy and time just being that, a friend. And even to those she does not know in our zone, she dedicates herself, designing and making patches / hats / key chains / tee-shirts / misc. prizes and loot. Who loves SWZ more than mom? Who loves Mom more than us?

It should be mentioned that she has some deep-rooted hatred of turrets, and will mercilessly pursue them, suiciding over and over again until it is dead. Turret Hunter, extraordinaire'. Mom is such a big part of this zone now, that it wouldn't be the same without her. One of our most dedicated mods of all time, mom will hunt down and catch cheaters with more enthusiasm than that of turret hunting. Cheaters beware, Mom is on the prowl. How many knew she was a published author? She is very wise and intelligent, and deserves her own advice column. Cheers Mom, our best mod and smod. One more thing, If I didn't have the Mother I do, I think I'd choose mom to be mine. If you knew her well enough, you would too.

Nato.

Many players in the hall of fame have been mentioned for their cap skills. Nato is and always will be mentioned for that, but what sets him apart is that he loved it, and truly loved to win flag games for his team. Most players that cap frequently simply love to be at the forefront of the action and attention, but Nato was and is different. He cared so much for his team that he capped frequently at their request, although he seemed to hate the spotlight and prefer to take orders like a loyal servant. Truly the epitome of a team player, NATO is an old vet that would do anything it took to win. You could almost hear him cry if his team lost. The lucky squads to have had him in their ranks know what is meant by this. Every old vet of SWZ knows his name, and his legacy. If you are called a capwhore now, know that Nato paved the way for you ;)

Pimp Daddy

Pimp Daddy gets his spot in the hall of fame for consistently attempting to get the worst record, ever. And he did, with something of a 0-3500 to show for it, before being reset. He beat Poch's worst record by a good 2000 or so. One of our best flaggers, Pimp (when he isn't orchestrating the entire zone to spawn kill him) is usually going about winning a flag game. And it also bears mentioning his skills in cap ship, which are unquestionably top 10. Who can forget his skills at rocketing into enemy base? Or his winning streak in old elims? Perhaps psychopathic as a mod/smod, Pimp Daddy is always ready to rip into the very souls of cheaters and eat their spleens. Feeling quite at home viciously raping the enemy, most feel a tinge of terror somewhere when they see him enter their base.

Poserwannabe

Many consider him to be the best pilot in SWZ, ever. His skill in all ships is unequalled, and quite surprisingly delicate and fluid, like an old Chinese kung fu master. Many consider him to be the all time greatest pilot in a warbird. And even more consider him to be the greatest Weasel, or greatest Javelin.

No one can ever be quite sure who is the greatest, but is a good bet that Poserwannabe is one of them. When he is in League, he is God. If anyone says they are better than Poser, they have been smoking the proverbial crack pipe.

Tailchaser

Always one of the best capital ship pilots, no one was safe when he was in it, and the enemy knew they were doomed. This character also happens to be a great dueller, who would never brag or let anyone know he actually has "skills". He was such a good team player and mature person (well, sometimes ;) that he garnered the utmost respect of Captain Harloch, who soon made him Sysop (and now with full authority in all zone matters).

Another good person to know as a friend, Tail is very generous and giving. Faced with the constant stress of running a major zone, he has remained soft spoken and sane. Around from the very beginning when the zone was first named, he has made this zone what it is to this day. Even with his mod and Sysop history behind him, he will continue to be of the greatest flaggers of all time in SWZ, who's ability to muster teamwork from a hapless team separates him from the good to the great.

All pilots listed must meet at least two of these criteria established for their inclusion:
  • Be one of the best players in a certain ship EVER in the zone
  • Have affected the flow of the zone greatly to include squad leaders/staff/huge popular personalities
  • Have garnered the notice of the entire zone at some point in time for their abilities/skills/personality
  • If currently non playing, their name is still on the lips of those currently playing
  • Have done something spectacular, such as best record/most points
  • Have a suggestion? Bring it up on our message board or email tailchaser@zetasquad.com
More entries will be added as they become available

Brought to you by Gold_Leader, Captain Harloch, Mom.
