My personal opinion is that population in the zone is low because the gameplay is not as fun as it used to be. I believe this is because the gameplay in the current map is not fun. I am not going to go into what I dislike about it but I dislike it enough to want to make my own map.

Here is where I need help. I have looked around and there seems to be at least 3 Map Editors out there. Which one is easiest to use and the one most map makers use? The other thing is tileset... I want to spend time making a map, not a tileset. Where can I get someone else's tilesets to use (I will be sure not to leave out their name in the credits of course)? I am looking for a simple tileset i.e. one base might use only one type of tile (just need something that is not the boring vie tileset). I would rather focus on quality of gameplay in the map than for it to be visually appealing.

I apologize for posting under anonymous name, but I have too many friends who put too much time into making the current map.

I just need info. on where to find a free-to-use tileset and tips on how to make a map.

Thanks.

If I think what my friends have done could be improved then I'll tell them. Do you write anonymous letters IRL and post them to your friends??!

If you have friends in the mmg, then why dont you ask them, they know more than most about making maps, and I am sure can deal with a little constructive criticism.

Knowing Whizzbanger and his hatred for C++, I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark and say this is him. Doesn't really much matter...just thought it'd be fun to guess. Oh yeah...and to stay on topic...I don't know a thing about map creation. Ask your MMG friends (but only BEFORE telling them their maps suck...may not get helpful advice if you tell them after).

i dont care if ppl say the map sucks, especially if some1 wants to make a map unlike other ppl bitching and not doing anything. The best editor to use is
ssme81a. you can find it at www.subspacedownloads.com. about the tilesets, tilesets are not really important at the beginning of a map. just put your mind on layout etc. Than you can go retile the map, and thats definetley the most fun part

Another good editer is FACTS, but it's used for different purposes than SSME. As far as a tileset goes, just make the map, and if it's any good I can make you a tileset.

just a decoy, Seko, Crawdaddy, 2blaze... red herrings aren't going to help the zone..

Thanks Sentinel. I think I will post any further mapmaking questions to this message board that way anyone else who wants to make a map can read the answers too. I hope you will be around to answer them.

Slyth, when I finish my map I will send it to you for your opinion and if you like it, I'll hold you to that tileset offer.

Ok I'm going to revive an old post regarding the procedure for map making in SWZ.

stick with SSME, it has everything you need. don't worry about the tileset at first. figure out what tileset the previous SWZ maps are using... the tileset should be interchangeable so if you do the map in one tileset, you can easily swap tilesets later. worry more about play-ability than the stupid eye candy factor that's incorporated with the current map.

you should be concerned with number of bases in the zone, misc items to help fill dead space, width of tunnels, strength of bases, and location of safe zones. keep good spacing of bases. if you try to cram too much stuff in one area most people's frame rates will fall off quickly.

the current map has too much crap on the sides. half the bases don't even get used... what's the point of that?

put a base near the center... maybe even inside the stupid no anti zone. this could be a fun base to use when the zone pop is low and people don't feel like flying to a base. also, it's sometimes fun to mess around with a base that people have the ability to warp right into.
